The material aims to transform the USD 22 billion nylon market, enabling manufacturers to satisfy consumer demand for eco-friendly everyday products including clothing, vehicle parts, and carpets. Geno and Aquafil have created the first several tonnes of plant-based caprolactam, the building block of nylon-6 converted it to nylon-6 polymer, and are currently transforming it for testing in nylon applications, such as yarns for textile and carpet and engineering plastics, as part of pre-commercial quantities from demonstration production taking place in Europe.
